I bought this camera a few years ago, I was looking for a camera that was easy to handle, small in size, and was for beginners...well, I found this camera, and I got what I was looking for--a great, compact camera with excellent handling for beginners.
This camera uses a SmartMedia card, which is really convenient since you can find SmartMedia cards just about everywhere for a bargain price.
What was the deciding factor for me to buy this camera, was the amount of batteries it used. I was surprised to learn that it only uses two AA batteries, it has so many features for a beginner that you would think it would use more batteries. The life of the battery is fairly long, about 100 minutes, which is always nice. Some people may complain that it uses AA batteries, and that they would prefer to use a lithium battery, but I always find myself asking--why? It is so much more convenient to use AA batteries because you can pick them up anywhere.

The only thing about this camera that I can complain about is that there is no way to attach any additional lenses or filters, you can't even attach an adapter to add on any thing to the lens. For a beginner photographer, though, that is probably okay since beginners are not really using the lens or filters yet.
Also, this camera is a little bulkier than I had originally thought. It is small in length and height, but it is surprisingly thick.

Other than that, though, I thoroughly enjoyed this camera during the time I had it, and the only reason I sold it was because I was ready for an upgrade. But I loved this camera to bits while I had it--it really prepared me for the more advanced cameras, and it taught me all of my basic photography skills. Excellent, excellent camera for beginners.

My Very First Digital Camera Ever! - Grumple Dumple -
This fat little camera always had something "special" about it. Not only because it was the very first digital camera I ever owned and bought, but because of the great quality pictures it always rendered. I didn't know that, however, until I stupidly gave the camera away to a friend. I automatically believed any future camera I were to buy would give the same outstanding results, and indeed, most of the many cameras that were to follow that one did give me outstanding results. However, like I said, there was something "unique" in the pics this one captured. It always produced the brightest and richest colors and details. Nothing ever seemed to be "off" in the pics. Its macro capability always impressed me as well. I feel its macro capability was always underrated. Of course, this camera 'is' limited in that it is only a meager 2 megapixels and has no real manual capabilities to speak of, but you don't really need them if you are satisfied to take pictures in good lighting. Personally, I have taken really good pics indoors in dim situations using the flash and have been satisfied. Each photographic situation may vary of course. Outdoors though, on any bright sunny day is when this camera really shines with the pics it renders. I know that this camera is almost impossible to find now, but if you happen upon one (used or otherwise) and you can trust the seller you definitely should buy it.
By the way, my friend would not give back the camera even when I offered to pay him a good amount. I guess he also saw the "specialness" in the pics it captured. However, I 'was' able to find another one (refurbished at overstock.com) that is to this day every bit as good as the original one I bought. It gives the same awesome quality pics.

Wonderful for 3 years and then quit working - Collins -
I have enjoyed this camera for about three years now. The picture quality is good and it is easy to use. BUT, just a few days ago while taking Christmas pictures it just died! The lens is stuck in an open position and the power will not come on. I have since learned that this camera is famous for working a year or so, and then the motor quits working. I would recommend a more reliable digital camera.

I am very serious in everything that follows:

Over a course of four years, this camera has withstood more abuse than any camera should. I have literally run it over with my car at 40 mph on dirt... more than once. I have dropped it over a hundred times onto hard surfaces. The front faceplate looks like it has 3 bullet dents. The LCD screen has dust and hairs behind it. It is scratched so much you can't see scratches. It has been rained on, dropped in mud, and been literally thrown from a car traveling at 55 mph, sent into brush. It has been stuck with double sided tape to the back of a car doing 55 mph offroad. It was taped to the front of a motorcycle. It was held outside the window of a car doing 100 mph. It was held outside a car doing 70 mph in the rain. It was used in 0 degree flash freezes.

I never thought anything about Fuji... and now I can't imagine buying anything else. I simply cannot stress how great this camera is. It is not a shockproof camera--but it has earned the title!

I purchased this camera and owned it for a year and a half, for the first couple of months the quality of the photographs was acceptable, but after the third of fourht month all the photographs lacked sharpness not to say that were blurry. I didn't do anything strange or hit it or anything, I didn't send it back because I live in Colombia - South America, but if I could I would have sent it back. I said I owned it because it was stolen 3 months ago.

I have the pink one. I love the color, and I feel special because it slides to turn on. No it might not get the best pictures, but it suits my needs. If I want to be a photographer, I'll buy a slr camera. As far as I know it doesn't have sepia, which isn;t the end of the world. I wish it has better pixels also.

This camera takes great outdoor pictures, but indoor pictures esp at lower light and close ups are quite grainy. I bought a Nikon Coolpix P80, a little more expensive and larger to carry, but the picture quality is much better. Still looking for a great pocket sized camera.

I just bought this Pentax Optio A30 as a replacement for my old Pentax Optio M20 that died from one fall too many. I took a chance on buying a used unit to keep the price down, but I have had no problems with it so far.
The shake reduction feature is great. The pictures are much sharper than the M20.
I do prefer the battery option in the M20 of AA rather than the charger type, but I'll just have to get a spsre to carry.
I haven't yet taken a video, but I expect that function to be at least as good as the M20.

My husband bought me this camera about 2 years ago for my birthday, and now again that my birthday is approaching in 6 days, my husband purchased me the new Pentax 70x. I loved this camera when I first got it, however after a year of having it, no drops or any misuse. The lense wouldnt shut properly, and the pictures are always blurry. Its like you have to wait for the camera to adjust whenever you need to take a picture, and take multiple pictures until it does. Also, the camera will turn on and the lense will go out, and then turn itself off right away even with a fully charged battery. I love Pentax products, I have used their cameras all my life and my husband has a scope for his rifle made by them. For some reason this camera is just iffy after a year of use. I also find that it is very pricey on Amazon.com. Much cheaper on QVC and you get a kit full of extras.

First camera DOA, lens extended on power up and the camera locked up. Have to pop battery out to reset.
Sent back, 2nd camera worked about 3 months and then the famous date-time resets everytimg you power off. Very common read dpreview.
Got it fixed under warranty (PCB repair) and 6 months later the problem reappeared.
Picture quality good though very contrasty and oversharpened. Divx video is horrific. LCD near impossible to see in daylight. Battery life non-existent

I bought this camera right before Christmas, so I have not yet had much time to play with the features. Out of the box it was a little hard to figure out, and the instructions could be better. I have taken some pics and they seem to have come out good, and only one blurry one of my 3 year old grandson. I like the size of the camera and case that came with the set. I think in time I will grow to love the camera, but right now I am still on the learning curve. This camera really is incredible. For the features that it has, the waterproofing, and the video quality it was a knock out for me. Now, for those of you who have been looking up the specs on this camera, it says that you can record 720p at 30fps. Actually I have run multiple tests and the version that I got runs at 60fps (I got a Class 10 SDHC card though so I am not sure if the speed of the card matters or not). I have heard mixed reviews about this and some people say it runs at 30 some people say it runs at 60, so I would imagine if you bought a fast SDHC card then you could probably record at 60 as well. It really looks incredible too. The video roughly in SH mode runs about 22 to 26 mbps. Which is pretty uncompressed. The pictures are really really good as well. The only thing I will say is if you are expecting this camera to blow you away with pictures, then you have to be in a good lit area. The macro is absolutely astounding though, it truly is as good as they say, you can almost get just a few mm away from a subject and still take a clear, high def picture. For me, just the ability of the waterproofing, video options, and the Ai photo capabilities I was sold on this camera. This also is round 2 or 3 ( I cant remember) for Panasonic doing a waterproof camera and it really shows. All of the ports are protected in a nicely rubber lined sealing and the screen is a very nice large size. I would completely recommend this camera if you are looking for a great camera, camcorder, and rugged tag along.

I have had my TS1 for about a week now, and i am very impressed with the quality. I wanted a camera I could take with me anywhere and not have to worry about breaking it. So far I am impressed with the picture quality granted my last camera was a nikkon cool pix 5 mp and this camera shoots much better as it should. I have shot some HD video with the camera and it has turned out great. I read that the camera will write to an sd card at 17 mb/s. I bought an 8gb SDHC class 2 card which will hold about 1100 pictures at the highest setting. My only question is if the class 2 card is limiting my HD recording capabilities as far as quality? Could anyone answer this for me? The only quall I have about this camera is that there is no lens cover wrather hardened glass, which I would not want to put to the test, because if that scratches all your pictures will show it. I was stuck between this camera and the Casio Ex-1, I chose this camera because I previously had the Casio camera phone, granted it was only 5 mp but the image quality was horrible so I went with the TS1 and am very glad I did so. Overall Great Camera and would recommend it to anyone especially for the price.

Defective camera with abysmal customer service - Heather - Ciudad Real, Spain
I have little to say about this camera because when I received it, it was completely defective. I was informed by an associate at a battery specialist store that BOTH the battery AND battery charger that accompanied this camera were defective--the battery would not charge and the charger was too weak to charge anything. Therefore, this camera is useless. Unfortunately, Panasonic's customer service phone line does not even allow you to speak to a live person. At this moment, my camera is on its way to a Panasonic facility for an undetermined amount of time until they fix this problem. Amazon has not been of any assistance either, claiming it is the manufacturer's responsibility, although they sold me the defective product. If I could do it all over again, I would buy the previous Olympus waterproof camera I had--never had a single problem with the product, manufacturer, or distributor.

Well I've been using the Kodak Easyshare Z1015 IS (ridiculous name, yes) camera for a few days now, so I thought I'd put in my two... or five... cents. First thing is, when you take it out of the box, if it feels a little cheap, well don't be surprised. But is it cheap? Well, yes and no. I'll reiterate this a couple more times in this review, but the price is really good for this camera. But what everyone really wants to know is--how does it perform? The answer to that is a mixed bag.
First, the push-to-capture speed is pretty fabulous for a digital camera. Meaning that you've got less of a chance to miss that perfect shot. But what if a MORE perfect shot comes along oh... in the next 2-3 seconds or so? Well too bad. Because the processing/saving to memory time of this camera isn't great. Yes, I've got the latest firmware update (which it came with, but I checked anyway), and I have a class 4 SDHC card, so it's no slouch. However, the speed did prompt me to order a class 6 card in hopes that will help my cause of taking more than two pictures in ten seconds. Of course, there's always the burst feature... which isn't all that quick, either.
So there's some bad for ya, how about some good? Well, this camera, generally, takes great photos. With the thing in one of the manual-oriented modes, jpg on fine and sharpness enabled, wow, very nice pics from a camera with this price tag. What else? Well Kodak just upped the ante with their Z980 with the 24x zoom (for 0 more), but the 15x zoom this baby sports is still really, really nice. What about the focus when you get in that close? Again, and unfortunately, the answer is it's a mixed bag.
Yes, the manual mode is great for a point and shoot, and it does allow you to manually focus... sort of. Meaning that if you can get it to basically focus in on your subject, then you can refine the focus and make the pic come out better. But the manual focus is very, very basic. Those expecting to use this as some sort of replacement for a more expensive DSLR camera... think again. But then again, you're never going to get the manual focus capabilities from a point and shoot that you get from a DSLR. Period. So in a way, you can't fault Kodak for giving it their all.
The wide angle is nice, but I wish it were wider (the Z980 takes it to 26mm, this one clocks in at 28mm)
The battery life is respectable, especially for the zoom you get, but I wish they would have included a separate charger so you didn't have to charge the battery IN the camera (I already ordered one).
Another thing? For this price you get an HD camcorder (it can zoom while filming). Yes, the quality isn't the best, but it's still in high resolution, and better than any other digital camera movie mode I've ever used... and it's still CHEAP. Forget buying that HD camcorder (I'm selling mine now), and just use this.

The bottom line:
For the beginner to intermediate photographer, this thing is going to take care of almost, if not all, of your needs. Beyond intermediate, you have to start considering the compromises you're going to be making for the price (but this is something anyone who has ANY photography skills should realize). This thing is CHEAP. Meaning that you could buy this just for the interim until you can afford a DSLR, and in the end really not lose much money, AND have a great point and shoot camera to use for more basic, everyday things. All in all, highly recommended.

Oh, except for FedEx. They've delivered TWO packages to me in a year and a half, and I've had issues both times. UPS? They've delivered every other package (and we're talking quite a few). How many problems? Zero.

Full Featured Camera That Takes Excellent Pictures - Mark W. Bliton -
This is a great camera for a person who wants a full featured camera at a reasonable price. The 15x zoom lens is fantastic and the image stabilization is a real asset. The view finder is also a big plus for those who don't want to only rely on the LCD. It is a larger camera. If you are looking for compact camera this isn't the one for you.

Even though this is a very good product and It is what i expected, my experience buying it was awful. I payed for a brand new camera and when I received it, it was beaten. I read the operation manual and I wanted to configurate the camera and then was when I noticed that the camera has been used. It seems that it was the camera that has been used in the store for demonstration because the memory was full of photos of the store!! There was 30 photos of the store in the memory of the camera. The name of the store is Beach Camera and they sent me a used and beaten camera. I wrote an email to the store but I never got an answer. And I can't go to the store personally because I am living in another country. This really was a very bad experience for me, I was fooled by these people.

THIS CAMERA HAS ISSUES - OLDS - Nassau, Bahamas
Every time you turn the camera on you have to set the date and time. It worked fine for a few months and then it went bad. The problem about it is that there was so many reviews complaining about this same problem and I ignored it. It is very frustrating, because when you need to take a picture right away you can't because the camera won't take a picture unless you set the date and time and obviously you can't catch a shot when it is happening because of this and you can't leave the camera on until it happens because it automatically shuts down after being on so long(which I guess is a good thing). This simply is quite annoying and I have used a Sony that has no similar problem. It is less megapixels but I guess less megapixels is better than no picture at all.

Nice easy to use camera with excellent picture quality. Had a 16x24 poster made off of camera turned out great. One down fall is i had to purchase a new battery within a year. If you do have to replace battery make sure you get the real nikon battery. I found out from experience the cheap money saving battery is really that cheap. but otherwise best camera we have every owned. We bought our kids nikon cameras also.

On low end of point and shoot digital cameras - SoCalAvAZ - SoCalAvAZ
I got this after reading reviews that it was a decent camera and the low price also convinced me to give it a try. Out of the 5+ digital cameras I've had this has to rank the lowest in quality and ease of use.

The problems:
1 - Extremely slow: If you have a dog or baby and want to take quick pictures of those precious moments, skip this camera. The camera takes forever to load from one photo to the next.
2 - Settings are a pain: Every time I needed to take a picture I had to try a few different settings to see what the best option was. If you leave it on auto you won't get the best pictures so you have to actually choose a mode i.e. indoors. And you have to play around with a few different modes until you can finally find the best one. Again back to point #1 that if you want to take quick photos of those precious moments, this is not for you.
3 - Poor quality: I never noticed how poor the quality of the photos actually were until I compared them to some old photos I had taken with my previous camera - Casio Exilim.

After a few months of use I decided to take the loss and sell this camera and am now on a search for a new one.
Bottom line, don't bother with this unless you want a mediocre camera.

I looked at many many digital cameras before buying this one. I finally decided to buy it because it looked like it had everything I needed and it was cheaper than others. Well, I am really happy with my purchase. I bought this camera in 11/01 so I have had it for a long time. I have taken it to Hawaii and Florida and just around town and it has not failed me yet.

Indoor pictures are not great with this camera but they are not horrible. I have taken some professional looking pictures with this camera and look at them on the computer daily. I would not even think about using regular batteries with it though, that would be a joke. This camera does suck battery juice like crazzzy.

I enjoy taking pictures and this camera really has been great. I use webshots on my computer and I have my pictures of Hawaii cycle through on the desktop everyday, actually every 15 minutes. People are always commenting on them asking if they are professional pictures. I even printed some of them out and they looked great.

If you do not have a lot of money to spend and want a pretty good camera I would go with this one. It really has just about everything. ...

Good Camera (if/when it works!) - -
Had this camera for a little over a year and it's a piece of junk. From day one it has never worked right. At least 90% of the time it locks up when I turn it on; the red LED light stays on and I have to open the battery door for thirty seconds to reset the camera. Sometimes when I change modes it locks up. I have no confidence that it will work when I turn it on. When it does "boot up" correctly I jump for joy (is this how it's suppose to be?). This thing also uses a lot of power, my 1800ma NiMh batteries (4 AA) only lasts about 25 pics at medium resolution and small image size. It's a shame because this camera is constructed well (metal case), takes terrific pictures (when it works), zoom is great, LCD screen is very clear for it's size, uses easy to get CompactFlash cards and batteries. It's out of warranty right now and I don't think it's worth trying to repair so it'll get tossed into the rubbish can; what a waste! Maybe I just got a lemon when I bought it but I will never buy another Minolta digital camera again, this S304 really tarnished Minolta's reputation in my books. I won't tell everyone "don't buy it"......it's up to you, maybe you won't get a lemon like I did.

The only difference is that my Dimage had to be sent back to the factory straight from the box because it was filled with fine lint like particles. I have used this camera for 3+ years. I have found it to be quite reliable. The light weight is a big plus for an avid backpacker like myself. This camera has been through some terrible conditions and has performed consistently well over thousands of images. The image quality is quite striking for a 6mp camera. i have produced some very nice 5 x 7 prints. Pros: lightweight, reliable, well built, extensive manual controls, excellent zoom, good IS. Cons: limited ISO range, small sensor, low res lcd, slow burst mode. At the time I purchased this camera it was the latest superzoom on the market and was very competitive with others. In fact, I believe it to have been the best 3 years ago. If you want consistent reliable workhorse. An excellent choice.

We bought this camera a year ago. While it's a bit high tech from the point and shoot that we had this camera took AMAZING photos. The camera was dropped and the zoom stuck in one position and it pretty costly to repair, so we bought a new camera (Sony), that I HATE. I want my old camera back and I think I just may go ahead and return the one I bought and re-buy this camera, even though I had no idea how to use most of the settings. I gave it 4 stars because I don't know how to use all the settings and the book is complicated. REALLY complicated, but if you know more than your average point and shoot photographer, you'll be fine.
Buy it. You wont regret it.

This camara has great resolution,it's light yet powerful enough to take great pictures. Too big to be comfortable for a disney vacation with kids but very good for special ocasions non-vacation pictures.
Does not come with case, you need a big case to be able to store all the gadets included with the camara.

I also bought this camera and experienced poor battery life. After reading the reviews I was ready to box it up and ship it back. At the last minute I decided to give it another try and work the batterys. I bought 2 each of every battery that said digital camera. I also measured the short circuit current of each type of battery. What I found is this camera (and every camera that uses AA's) needs high current NOT high capacity.The flash is essentially a dead short. When the engineers built the bigger zoom (5X) they made the flash bigger. The bigger flash it put a hugh load on the batterys. The best batterys that I found were the Hybrios (new style NiMh that holds it charge for a year another benefit). The Sony high current also worked. When I tested it with fresh charged batterys I gave up after 80 consecutive forced flashs in a row and I got tired of testing. Previously I could get about ten flashes before the batterys failed. This included alkaline as they do not like being shorted. So bottom line is you need about 8 amps short circuit current to make the camera live. Six amps short circuit does not work and the age of the cells counts for a lot. I have tried these cells in a DSLR with the same results they last a long time.

P.S., Just as with all digital cameras/realted devices...you must use Lithium Batteries for optimum performance. This is clearly recommended in the owner's manual so let's be fair when blogging. :-)

Ridiculous camera, ridiculous support - Twee - The Emerald City
Reading buyer comments from a number of sites, it's clear that TERRIBLE battery life is a common issue. Mine worked well only for <100 shots and a handful of videos. Since then, the "battery has no charge" message displays after one shot. I've had the same results whether I'm using rechargeables or alkalines.

Other issues include a pause between pushing the button and the actual shot, giving somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 seconds waiting time-- enough for most candid shots to be a miss. And Olympus support basicaly said, "It's a low priced camera, and that's all it does."

Awful product, awful support. It's back to canon PowerShots from here on!

Don't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole, battery life is nil. From various issues I have seen on the web it is a design issue. Basically the only batteries I can get to work are the expensive lithium ones and then if you leave then it the discharge over a couple of months of non use.

Was going to let my girls play with it but I spend to much on batteries.

Difficult to use software. The date stamp on the pictures seems to be random, so it took me forever just to locate them on the computer. My 4YO son received this camera as a Christmas gift. What a disappointment!

Even after putting in 2 different sets of batteries and a memory card, it won't even turn on. The manufacturer (not Crayola, this is a licensed product), Sakar Intl, has told me they would send a replacement. It has been 2 months and no camera has ever arrived. I have called 8 times, and waited on hold at least 10 minutes each time. Every time I call, they tell me it was backordered and it has been sent, to just wait a "few more days". When I ask to speak to a supervisor they either tell me no supervisor is on the floor, or once they left me on hold for 40 minutes, until I finally hung up.

You would think that something with the Crayola brand on it would be a quality item. Apparently, Crayola is unaware that they have licensed their name to such a poor product. I did speak to a Crayola customer service rep, and she was very nice & said they would follow up with me tomorrow.

This camera is going back to the store today. Don't buy this camera, or anything else from Sakar International. It's a lousy product from a lousy company.

As an owner of a Lumix DMC-TZ1, I thought that I would stay with a Panasonic product and upgrade to a 12MP point and shoot camera. I read some of the other reviews and thought that the DMC-FS25 was what I was looking for. I was satisfied with the large LCD,the feel of the camera and many of the features. To my dismay, all my picures were blurry. I even tried setting the timer and placing it on a solid surface thinking maybe I wasn't steady enough, but they still were poor quality.My 5MP took a better shot of the same view than this camera did.
I called about returning the camera and they suggested calling Panasonic. After some thought I did not call Panasonic because I was concerned that my problem would not be corrected within the 30 day return time.
It would be nice if camera manufactures would supply wholesellers with pictures taken by the individual camera to prove that their product does not have a bad processor or other problems.

I earned one of these cameras after obtaining points in a survey site. It is made from cheap chrome color plastic and they do not supply the batteries. I had to use my own AAA batteries which kept popping out because of the bad springs in the camera. I would not be afraid to bet that is just another Chinese slave labor item.

Plus if the batteries die or you remove them, you lose images. It does not take memory cards! I went to check out their website, which is very lame, and I could not find anyone to write to you about it. I am returning this camera! Stay away!

Bought this camera as my spare. It works well and very portable. It takes the auto focus longer than usual to focus. So if you need quick shot, you may end up with a blurry one. Every Kodak is different. I have seen other Kodak auto focusing instantly. This V1003 takes too long to focus.

One thing I must say is Kodak should protect this camera LCD display with another hardened glass. I see many cases of broken LCD and you know when that happens, you might as well get another one.

Although I didn't purchase this item through Amazon, I did get the black colored version of the SVP Xthinn 1056 from a well known auction site. I also don't work for SVP or any of their resellers. I am a genuine 22 year old person in college who needed a new digital camera.

When I received the Xthinn 1056 in the mail, I was very surprised on how small it is. It's about the size of a credit card, and it can fit easily in your pocket or purse. The lens on this is also small, and one would think that it will take cell phone quality pictures. Well, once you have used it, you will be very surprised by the picture quality.

I have been using my SVP Xthinn 1056 for about a day now, and I have to say, I think I found my perfect replacement digital camera. The pictures that this small camera can take are amazing for it's price and size. The camera uses two AAA batteries for power, and the camera comes packaged with two free AAA batteries to get you started. They are even name brand Duracell Ultra batteries. Im still figuring out the battery life on the Xthinn 1056, and so far, it seems that the flash uses a lot of battery power, but what camera doesn't? Speaking of the flash, it seems that the flash does tend to make everything ghost white if you use it up close, but personally, I don't use the flash that often. People who use the flash may need to take note of this. The TFT LCD monitor is also top notch for this kind of camera. The image is crisp and clear and the menu system is also easy to use and to understand.

Even though there are a lot of things I like about this camera, I must nitpick a little. First of all, there is no dedicated delete button. To delete the image, you have to go to the menu, select "Delete", select "Single", and then confirm the deletion. It's kind of a long process, and some people may find it annoying, but for me, I can get used to it. Secondly, there is no optical zoom. There is only digital zoom, which again, I can get used to. And finally, if you were to buy this from said auction site, you notice they advertise the camera as 10 megapixel, but the camera achieves this resolution by interpolation once you read the fine print, and the camera itself is only 5.1 megapixel. 5.1 megapixels is quite enough for a person like me, but for others, probably not so much.

Overall, if you are looking for a no-frills digital camera that can take good pictures, then I can recommend the SVP Xthinn-1056. But, if you are looking for something that has more features, higher resolutions than 5.1 megapixes, and digital zoom, then I would suggest a higher end camera from a name brand manufacturer.

As for me, Im very happy with my purchase, and look forward to using my new Xthinn 1056 as my new digital camera.

*This camera is durable. The sliding cover and flip-up flash show now signs of wear
*haven't worried about keeping the lens pristine
*switched to rechargeable AA batteries early on and they still work. have to recharge them every 200 pics (get 158 exposures on the default setting on a 128MB card resulting in 700KB file sizes--enough for 8x10 pics!)
*use the default Camedia picture software (got the upgrade) exclusively for picture printing and decent editing
*software could use better 'templates' aside from 'happy bday'
*plugging in the camera to the TV video inputs and running your own slide show is great for family get togethers (especially at the end of a trip before you leave is a nice recap of family events)
*it's not a compact camera, but it's designed to hold well in your one hand to take pics
*find myself adjusting the 'gamma' up a couple of notches before printing out the pics
*night mode works great if you have a tripod

I guess if you are going for an older camera to save money, this isn't a bad choice, but I would recommend looking at newer ones. Like most electronic gadgets, they get better every year.

Pros:
- generally easy to use
- uses standard AA batteries
- no lens cap to lose
- software - easy web page publishing in professional version

Cons
- a little too big to be pocketable
- there are comparable cameras with 10x and even 12x optical zoom
- no stabilization feature
- lacks shutter-priority, aperature-priority, and manual modes
- difficult to impossible to get good pictures of indoor sporting events and other low-light situations where the flash does no good or you can't use the flash (actually, this is probably true of many other consumer-level cameras)
- slow reaction time - push the button and it takes the picture about a second later (or not at all if it thinks you need the flash)
- menus aren't explained very well in the manual
- software - version that comes with the camera is crippled, but the professional version freezes occasionally

Despite what somebody else said, backing up files to a cd isn't that hard if you know what you are doing; you just have to mount the CD so it looks like any other disk drive. I had no problems with this.

Anyway, I'd say spend a little more money and get a Panasonic with 12X zoom, image stabilization, and some of the other features mentioned above. You could also go for a camera with higher MP, but I'd rather spend my money on features that will actually help me take better pictures, not just bigger ones.

I bought this to upload pictures on ebay. I have a fairly new Casio camera that is faster and is a 10.1 megapixel, but the file size takes too long to load on ebay. The Olympus has a 3+ megapixel, and the file size is about 1/4 the Casio. These load fine and are good photos. My only complaint is the size. It is about the same height and depth, but the thickness is about four times the size of the Casio. I guess when this was new that was OK, but just something I thought I'd point out.

Conclusion: If you need a good basic camera and don't mind the thickness, this is a nice older model that still works well today.

I was all set to buy the Sony H50, but found the H9 at Fry's for 9. Wow! I was looking for a bridge camera to play with HDR photo editing. My dad is a big Canon user and for the life of us we cannot get either of his two Canons to take bracketed still shots. The manuals stink for this camera, and the pdf I loaded on the home computer doesn't mention the bracketing either. BUT, it's quite simple. Figured it out in just playing with the camera after about 5 minutes, and it actually works. I'll be taking this out to the Getty Center this weekend and will take some 2 to 3 hundred pictures and see what this camera can really do. Will add to this review afterwards.

It's a keeper. The quality of the pictures is simply amazing. I played with a lot of settings for taking pictures indoors of priceless painting and then Macros of the flower garden and of pollenating bees, and each shot amazes me. You'll be very hard pressed to buy a better camera for the 9 I spent at Frys in El Segundo. This is a major upgrade from my antiquated 2 MP Canon Powershot camera. I'm simply thrilled by the sharpness and quality of the pictures this compact camera captures! At the highest resolution, the amount of detail this camera picks up is phenomenal (as long as you're in a sufficiently illuminated setting).

There are three major reasons why I picked the Sony DSC-W170 over other brands/models of cameras. (1) This camera has a 28 to 140mm wide angle lens to capture a wider field of view for establishing the context of the subject or subjects in the shot. (2) The 5x optical zoom lens enable impressive close-ups (3) The image stabilization helps to keep your subject properly framed even if you have shaky hands like mine.

The camera also takes macro shots. The clarity, sharpness, and detail of the macro shots is astounding. I'm having a lot of fun with this - You can actually get real creative with this!

You can also take videos at 30 fps (480 x 640 resolution) with this camera. I should caution you about an inaccuracy in the product description. As of this writing, the product description reads "the length of your video limited only by the capacity of your media." DO NOT BE MISLED! Like all point-and-shoot cameras that are video-capable, the length of the video on the DSC W-170 is limited to 10 minutes. You would need to restart the video after every 10 minutes if you wish to continue shooting.

The Sony Cybershot is, of course, not exempt to the problem that's inherent in all compact cameras -- "noise" in low light conditions. The problem is more pronounced in compact cameras than in dSLR cameras.

In case you're deciding between this and the 8.1 MP DSC-W150 -- my friend owns a DSC-W150 and I can see that this camera produces significantly better quality pictures.

A quick word on memory cards - You can actually use a regular microSD card with this camera if you use a microSD card to MS Pro Duo Adapter (such as this one). It's worked very well for me.

As far as compact cameras are concerned, the Sony Cybershot DSC-W170 is about as good as it gets. If you're looking for a compact camera that you can easily slip in your purse or backpack, you can't go wrong with the DSC-W170.

Bought this little jem for it's 2 1/2" LCD screen and the 3.2 mp picture quality. The LCD is exceptional and makes it easy to review photos without glasses as well as to share instantly with friends. The size is right also. When riding my Harley Springer it's easy to keep this camera handy for those instant shots (after pulling to the side of the road).
1. The metal case seems bullet proof however when holding it your right thumb rests against a very slippery portion of the camera body. I can almost feel the camera slipping from my hands if not careful. To prevent this I glued a small piece of 400 grit emery cloth to this area and the problem was cured. (Kyrocera take note: place a few bumps in thumb area to enable a better grip!).
2. Outdoor photos are almost 100% overexposed but can be quickly corrected in your favorite photo editing software. This may also be corrected by using the manual white balance.
3. Take your time when making photos because every photo will be blurred if you don't prefocus first (press shutter button half-way down) before taking the actual photo. If you press the shutter button all the way down when taking a photo it will blur everytime!
4. Buy a soft case for the camera for protection. A bought a perfect one at Target for .99.
5. The camera and menu controls are extremely simple a straight forward.

Now that I've had this camera for a few months problems have developed. It seems that once installing freshly recharged 2100mAh batteries I get only 2 pictures before it goes dead. A new CRv5 battery( each) lasts for 5 pictures. I'm attempting to contact Kyocera today (5/9/2004) and will post results. I lower my rating to 3 stars but it may go much lower depending on Kyocera's response.

This is my first real digital camera and I LOVE it! It's easy to use, but, like any good toy, challenging enough to keep your interest as you learn all of the features. (I usually find the best deals at Amazon, but found this at another on-line store for 0, and that included a 2 GB memory card.) Basically everything you need to know can be found on the LCD Screen. Each time you change settings, it tells you what the current setting is for, so you're not constantly referring to the user guide. It even has a "Help" feature. The pictures are great; I haven't had any problems getting great pics in the dark; putting the camera in Scene (SCN) mode gives you a wide variety of lighting options. Video is great and easily uploads to my computer via the USB cable and Easy Share software. I have taken several minutes of video but am still unsure of how much video you can take with a 2 GB card. I love being able to create still shots from whatever video frames I want. Also love being able to "stitch" three shots together into one panoramic picture. Besides the optional date stamp, you can add text and audio tags to your pictures, tag pictures as favorites, lock them so they aren't accidentally deleted, and add e-mail addresses to share photos when uploaded. The basic features (zoom, b/w,sepia, etc) work great also. Packaging included a clear plastic base, which works as a great stand for charging the camera and is also a makeshift tripod for capturing video. Kodak recently upgraded their Easy Share software to v7.1 which includes a scrapbooking feature. Free download is available from their website. You can do some editing right on the camera, but the software allows more editing features. As for size, I carry a very small purse and this camera fits nicely into one of the pockets- I don't leave home without it. The one downside is that the camera does not have a viewfinder and it can be difficult to see the LCD screen in bright sunlight. I will continue to work on that, but in the meantime- I just do my best to get the image I want and edit it later. All in all, I would highly recommend this camera.

The camera is great! My daughter loves it and it is small and portable. The camera charges with a small charger and looks great. I gave it 4 stars, not because of the camera, but because of the kit it came with. The value is pretty good considering that you get an extra battery, camera case that matches well to pink camera and other assorted stuff. However, just letting you know that the extra battery it comes with is NOT Canon. I honestly didn't try the extra battery yet because the first one the camera comes with is still charged, but I was kind of surprised because it didn't say it outright in the description. Soooo, good value, but ??? about the extra battery.

this product is very nice for beginners to digital imaging.It has all capabilities of playing mp3,taking photos and sending videos. I recieved one of these things free from iwin.com. Although a cool idea, this thing is poor at everything it does. The pictures are blurry, the performance from the webcam is probably terrible, and the mp3 player is a joke. Here are my complaints:

1. Driver intstallation was a failure on the pc I intended to use this device on. It worked on a second PC no problem, but even downloading the latest drivers from samsung was no help on pc #1.

2. 8MB compact flash is way too little. You'll want to shell out -0 for a much more storage. Unless you want to listen to the same song over and over again, or only have the ability to take a few pictures.

3. Earphone plug is tiny (I think 1/16" plug) so forget about using your own earphones or car adapter. The included earphones are low quality.

4. MP3 controls are terrible on the device. You have to press mode several times to do anything.

5. Flash offers 2 modes "auto" and off. Using auto, the camera decides if it's going to use the flash. If it's not using it, the picture is taken on the first press of the button. If it is, you have to press the button once to charge the flash, and a second time to take the picture. This means when you press the button, you have to be ready for the picture to be taken right then, but the possibility remains that it may have to charge for awhile. Very annoying!!

6. The video capture feature crashed my computer. Generally USB capture devices are low quality anyway, so don't expect anything special from this assuming you can get it to work.

So to sum up, this device attempts to perform 3 cool functions, but comes up short in all categories. Trust me.. I love gadgets, but not this one. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! You have been warned.

In August 2001, I bought a Samsung Digimax 35 MP3, the first Samsung product I bought, and I feel very disappointed about it. It certainly possesses a number of features making it attractive, such as a fancy design, portability, easiness of operation, easy-to-use software etc. But when it comes to performance, it's very disappointing for the following reasons:
(1) EXTREMELY poor image quality, in what concerns range of colors. The images all look very much alike: brown-gray. No sharp colors, nor any vivid colors. It's hard to accept that a digital camera of these days performs so poorly in this respect. Right from the start, I was willing to accept a limited image size in exchange for the camera's price, but I never, ever could imagine that its color performance could be so bad.
(2) EXTREMELY limited luminosity range. Again, I can't accept that a digital camera could be so limited in this respect. It looks like I'm trying to use a ISO 25 film to take night shots, but I'm using a digital camera to photograph in a room with reasonable lighting, or even at open air at dawn or dusk. How can a digital camera have such a limited lux range?
(3) EXTREMELY poor image sharpness. All it takes is just a little less than full Sun light and we get fuzzy edges and, more frequently than not, blurred images. It's just unbelievable!
(4) The camera shuts itself down after a very short time, so whenever I'm about to take a snapshot, I almost always miss the opportunity. And it takes an incredibly long time to start-up again.
(5) Very high battery consumption, or, if one prefers to put it reversibly, very low energy storage capacity. I just can't fill-up the camera's memory chip before having to change the batteries. Such a strange (=poor) engineering design. For all the reasons above, I'm convinced that the Digimax 35 mp3 is not worth at all the US$ 200.00 I paid for it.
Digimax 35 MP3 is sold as a camera that also records MP3. Since I didn't buy the camera because of MP3, I have never used its MP3 features. So, giving you the benefit of doubt to say its a good MP3 device, this thing should be sold as an MP3 recorder that, by the way, can be used marginally to shoot some low resolution, blue-and-brown photos once in a while.
My wife keeps telling me to sell the camera to get the money back, but I don't feel comfortable charging anything to anyone just ofr getting rid of this such low-performance equipment. And what I do want to do is having a camera worth the price I paid for it.
I tried to send this review/complaint to Samsung many many many times through their "contact us" e-mail address, but all I get are error messages.

LOOK AT IT! It's GORgeous. I'm surprised Fuji doesn't have Paris Hilton modeling with it. Its unique design and the beauty of it is certainly undeniable... oh, and in case you're measuring and trying to compare and figure out how small/big this camera is.. let me clear that up; yes, it's tiny. It really is tiny. One thing I like about it, though, is that even though it's very compact, it's not overly light. (I never worry about dropping it..... I do get scared when other people touch it though... -haha)

What's there NOT to like about it? I can't decide whether to keep this camera because of the fact that it's so fantastic looking and I really don't think I'll find anything better as far as design... or sell it and buy something maybe a bit bigger and for sure less "cool"-looking in sacrifice for CLEAR pictures, EVERY time.

What this camera will often leave you with if you're taking pictures of anything with the slightest bit of motion is about 10 pictures that are far too blurry, 3 pictures that are blurry but you really want to kill yourself because they were/would've been *perfect* (and at about this moment you're cursing Fuji with all you've got), and 2 pictures that are clear but YOU screwed up the picture by getting half your ear cut off or accidentally snapping the picture when Laura had her finger up her nose. Damnit. That sucks.

It all depends on what you're taking pictures of. Never take this to any kind of event that's very important to you and monumental and you want pictures for... ever... because that's when it'll fail you; trust me. I took it to a graduation and first I thought it was only the lighting, so I turned the flash off, then it was making things blurry so I turned it back on and changed settings.. and it was still making things blurry. I didn't get one clear shot of that whole event. Let's just say it pissed me off and that's when I'd realized I'd had about enough.

I take pictures of me and my girl friends all the time for profile shots and things... we're just playing around.. we have all the time in the world to get the right pose. I never have problems then because we're HOLDING VERY STILL... but taking this camera to events, you know, where people MOVE; "just say 'no'".

I did take this to a winter formal and got very clear, crisp pictures that I blew-up into 5"x7" and they turned out amazingly well so I was pleased with my F450 then, however I can't stress this enough; digital cameras anymore are all about convenience. It's not convenient to have to ask a stranger if they can "start over" and give the same reaction they did the FIRST time your friend yelled "LOOK AT MY POOPY UNDIES!" at them... no, because... that just doesn't work.

ALSO price doesn't always represent quality, okay? Oh, and neither does mega-pixels, like someone else noted. Honestly, I preferred my Sony 3.2mp over this one. "If I could tuuuuurn back tiiiime...". ((Aw, but don't think I'm saying Sony's are all somethin' great!!!!!! Don't buy T-ANYTHING! They're all really bad. Read reviews. **Some** reviews are your friend, so read many.]

i baught this camera about a year ago and i takes good pictures.. and is easy to upload, hower the zoom has broken 4 times, and my camera has had to be sent in to be repaired, it can take many months for this repair, and my camera has been replaced, but the zoom just broke again yesterday, and this time i plan on buying a new camera.

I'm fulfilling a [forgotten] promise I made to myself to write a comment on this fine product, after I bought it two years ago for 0, a refurbished price I think. It's a great camera, or should I say it Was a great camera since I lost it, stolen but that's another story.

This is a great camera to carry around for snaps, fits easily in the pocket, and makes good videos, up to three minutes long which can then be stitched together on the computer to make a longer movie. I found it to be rugged and forgiving of abuse [it became the house-camera used by an 18 year old knucklehead] and yes the lens did stick but I just shoved it back in [luckily?] and it worked fine. And the pictures, great, or to be honest one out of five or so was great; and looking back on the rest of them they are precious because they record moments that otherwise would be lost!

I'm in the search now for a new camera and I will be pleased if it works as well as this one did.

I am a licensed child photographer, so I knew exactly what I was looking for when I bought this camera. This camera is now my favorite to use. I like that I dont have to change lenses, which lets me focus on only one thing - the children. I do have to use a tripod if I dont use the flash, but I expected that. The battery always outlasts my 2.0gb memory card, so I don't have to change the battery mid-photoshoot. One thing to know though - if the battery IS low, the shutter speed is very slow. So keep it charged. I recommend this camera to my friends, my photo specialists, and well, to everybody!

I am not a techie, but I got the Samsung as a step up from a regular Kodak digital. Please forgive my lack of "technical" discussion.

I find it an "adventure": I'm learning it as I go along and very day is a new suprise. Fairly easy to use and packed with features. Love the long zoom, love the huge LCD and all the other goodies. Pix are sharp and clear. I haven't seen any other high end digital that is comparable. Only complaint is shutter lag time.

I got it as "refurbished" here and saved a bundle. Seems new to me.

This was essentially my first camera, so keep that in mind as you read this. I've taken around 2000 photos so far and it has been a great camera to learn how to use. I found the "shooting guide" to be useless. Some of the scene options were nice like sport and sunset mode, but other than that I haven't found much use for them either. The video mode was probably the most disappointing part of the camera. Once I start the video, there is no focus adjusting and sometimes the zoom doesn't work during video. Aside from the focusing and zoom, the video quality is terrible and the sound is even worse. If video is a priority for you, don't buy this camera.

The camera takes some great photos outside, but inside photos don't turn out as well. That could very well be because of my poor skills. The supermacro mode is really cool and can make some interesting photos. I have discovered that the 5x zoom really does make a difference over the 3x that a lot of lower end point and shoot cameras have. The camera is extremely easy to use and learn on, plus it was a great buy at the time so I'm happy with it overall. I would recommend it to someone who wants to start learning how to take pictures or someone who spends a lot of time outdoors.

My Kodak Easyshare stopped working while on a cruise on Carnival Destiny, my first cruise. I bought the Olypus Stylus 840 at the photo shop on the cruise and what a bargain!! Good camera for the money. The "point and shoot" auto mode is better for outside shots. For inside photos it needs more settings to be made manually by the user. I would avoid using too much zoom as it pixelates the picture and makes it difficult to take a clear shot. The only real defect is the LCD viewer. It doesn't give an accurate display of the photo that is taken. On the computer the photo looks MUCH better.

The touch screen is a tease. There are only four touch buttons on the side of the screen you can press. Along with two other hard buttons it makes for a cumbersome navigation of the settings and zoom. It's also hard to take self pics as a finger or part of your hand will enevitably hit one of the touch buttons.
It's also not very click and shootable. You have to hold down the shutter at least until it's done focusing which can take from two to five seconds otherwise it will not take a picture. When it does take a picture there is no quick preview.
There is no way to turn off the "squeek" for each button press. There is no sound in movie mode. The flash setting ALWAYS resets back to no flash which isn't a bad thing as using the flash somehow makes everything either darker or extremely washed out.

I purchased this camera for my daughter for x-mas and she ended up hating this camera for the below average quality of the pictures and the main reason, there is NO SOUND when recording video! I thought there was something wrong with it until I called the manufacturer and they confirmed it has no mic. The description on amazon and on vivtars website does not state this.(very misleading) It confuses me why someone would make a camera with video but no sound..? Thankfully J&R Electronics let me exchange it for another camera since it was within 30 days of purchase. Very disappointed by Vivitar. This was my first digital camera with professional settings and i must say that overall I have enjoyed the images it produces emmensley. I do wish it had more megapixels for the simple fact that with alot of distant low light pictures it is a bit grainy. And if the lighting wasnt really bright outside when zooming into the model of the photograph it does get a little blurry. After i bought the camera i went to amazon and looked at the reviews and was wondering if i made a big mistake, well i wanted a basic cheap camera for a friend so i bought this one. well the camera came and i was expecting something that took horrible pictures, well suprise..,,,, i tested it by taking a couple of pictures and was quite surprised the picture came out well, people u must read the instructions, inside photos u MUST use the flash and people or objects must be a few feet away and the flash works fine no whiteout. in no way is this camera for zooming in on stuff or taking really good photos for special occasions . the megapixel is just not enough for that . its great for a simple small photo of let say yourself or friends. Very basic and small but works.

A few years ago, my first digital camera was purchased. This camera happened to be Polaroid iZone 300. Well, I regret even touching this pathetic thing. My camera phone takes better pictures than this. This camera can't even take a perfect picture in the house. When I wanted to take my Myspace pictures, I had to be in the bathroom, which had about six or seven lightbulbs. This camera is a disgrace.

Ladies and Gentlemen, do not purchase this camera. Look at all the reviews. This digital camera is horrible. Pictures look terrible. Things are too dark, and rarely too bright. A typical Polaroid product. What ever happened to, "Just right"?

Just received the Samsung TL 90 camera and it seems to work very well. It's pretty intuitive and very close in operation to the Nikon camera I used to have. The pictures all seem to come out well and I really like the 2.7" screen. Tried to install the software and ALAS no can do. It only works on PC's ....basically Windows software.
I've got a MAC so there is no support. It works ok since I have a printer that allows me to pull the SD card and download the photos thru that but it would be nice to be able use the editing software that is available on the CD.
Maybe sometime soon Samsung will see fit to provide software for the MAC, so in the meantime unless you have a PC I'd buy another camera.

I bought one for each of my children and was always envious of the them, especially the close up capabillities. I wanted a camera to photograph close up pictures of some coins I want to catalog and this camera does a wonderful job. Using the higher resolutions allows me to zoom in on a particular feature of the coin to better show detail and/or mint errors. Great camera, easy to use and very easy to carry around. The one drawback is that the flash tends to pop open so if you carry it around much use a well fitted case so you don't damage the flash should it pop up. Check Price Now! I am fine with its limited capabilities, due to the fact that I use it 90% of the time simply for snapshots. And I have since bought a Nikon D300--so I don't need a big-performing point-and-shoot. I have tried using the NV15 on active subjects, with mixed results at best. It's AF (autofocus) is slow, and optical quality in low light without flash (@ higher ISO) is pretty poor. Its image stabilization is also so-so, compared to offerings by the established camera makers. And to boot, I dropped the camera from a very small height, and the topline of the camera shows a large crease through it. The stainless steel that comprises the top piece is, in my opinion, too thin and a poor choice of material. Samsung could remedy this by employing a piece of lighter and thicker material that has less malleability, i.e. aluminum or magnesium. I don't expect that camera makers design this class of camera for particularly rugged durability (unless they are going specifically after this niche, like Olympus has) so I'm not too bummed about the dent. All in all, I like the camera fine and I suppose from an aesthetics perspective, the design and the menu selection system alone make it worth the purchase--barely. If I had to do it over again a year ago, knowing what I know now, I would have bought something like the Canon sd750. On the market now are at least a dozen cameras that would be great alternatives and are feature-packed. In the past year, I hope that Samsung has improved their picturetaking features from the NV15 such as AF, higher ISO image quality and image stabilization. Because if those qualities are paired with Samsung's current innovative features, they could become an elite player in the market. Check Price Now!

If you want a little more picturetaking "chops", you should probably look elsewhere. I am fine with its limited capabilities, due to the fact that I use it 90% of the time simply for snapshots. And I have since bought a Nikon D300--so I don't need a big-performing point-and-shoot.

I have tried using the NV15 on active subjects, with mixed results at best. It's AF (autofocus) is slow, and optical quality in low light without flash (@ higher ISO) is pretty poor. Its image stabilization is also so-so, compared to offerings by the established camera makers. And to boot, I dropped the camera from a very small height, and the topline of the camera shows a large crease through it. The stainless steel that comprises the top piece is, in my opinion, too thin and a poor choice of material. Samsung could remedy this by employing a piece of lighter and thicker material that has less malleability, i.e. aluminum or magnesium. I don't expect that camera makers design this class of camera for particularly rugged durability (unless they are going specifically after this niche, like Olympus has) so I'm not too bummed about the dent.

All in all, I like the camera fine and I suppose from an aesthetics perspective, the design and the menu selection system alone make it worth the purchase--barely. If I had to do it over again a year ago, knowing what I know now, I would have bought something like the Canon sd750. On the market now are at least a dozen cameras that would be great alternatives and are feature-packed. In the past year, I hope that Samsung has improved their picturetaking features from the NV15 such as AF, higher ISO image quality and image stabilization. Because if those qualities are paired with Samsung's current innovative features, they could become an elite player in the market.

They refused to repair it. It works sporadically, still takes good photos when the lens decides to open. My opinion is that since it's their "value" line, you get what you pay for. It's disappointing, because my family has used Nikon products for over 50 years (including professionally) and has always been pleased with the quality and service. Is this the new Nikon? Piece of junk ,,,, and I love nikon products !!! - Peter A. Ilott -
I bought this camera to fill in the gap while I got my older Coolpix repaired (actuator problem).
The old camera (which I have reverted to) takes spectacular images, as one would expect from Nikon.
(I still have my old NikorMat and SLR lenses). Unfortunately the L14 is a piece of junk. I don't care much for features,
and I like the short list this camera has,,,, the problem is almost every image I take with it is BLURRED !!! I think it has to
do with the AF design (I saw some complaint about it somewhere else). I hate this camera. I've wasted dozens of photo opportunities

Don't expect any customer service when purchasing a camera from Nikon's L series. I would give the camera itself 4 stars, but Nikon's lack of service drops it to 1. Since then I have taken over 3000 pictures with this camera. The video quality is alright, and can be difficult when making movies, but it is a camera, not a VIDEO camera. I was able to make a documentary video with this camera, but it was rather difficult once on the computer. I mostly edited the content on the camera. Such a nice feature! The indoor does take a while to actually take the picture. For faster shutter times, hold the button half way down, until a green circle shows on the screen, then snap the shot. That use is better if you are waiting for something to happen. Everything else is great! The firework selection does awesome artwork with different light-styles. I am ever-finding new things to do with the camera. It has been to camps and back, it has been to disneyland, and even horseback riding. The camera isn't small, but it is small enough to put in a pocket and sneak into Grad-Night! The self-portrait selection goes over really well with teenagers today. An upgraded memory card is suggested. Overall, this camera is the best I've seen out there. Great quality, HUGE LCD, and so many functions it is easy to get lost in the camera. :-) I love the calendar feature: the camera can store the pictures by what day the picture was taken on. Bought this for my wife for a when she went down to assist in the Hurricane Katrina cleanup in Sept. of 2005. Everyone in the family loves this camera. It is small, lightweight, takes very nice pictures and has a huge screen. The battery lasts much longer than many digital cameras I have used.

It is not a pro camera, but it doesn't cost what a pro camera costs!

I purchased a battery charger and 4 rechargeable batteries. This was an additional expense but I came to terms with it, soon. The camera itself has been nothing short of great. I started out as a beginner and took some pretty decent photos. At an amateur level now, I can safely say this camera has a few good settings that allow you to take good quality pictures. Even on 'Auto' mode, try toggling with/without flash and the macro mode and it gives you nice results. I've had this camera for 2.5+ years and haven't felt the need to buy a new one. I can't count the times I've taken 1-2 pictures and then have to pause the activity to stop, get new batteries out and change the batteries- "happy birthday to you.. happy birthday.. oh wait, everyone, I need new batteries, give me a minute.." I bought this camera from Amazon and initially I was disappointed when I got it, because it works on 2 AA batteries. I purchased a battery charger and 4 rechargeable batteries. This was an additional expense but I came to terms with it, soon.

Kodak EasyShare M1063 10.3 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver) Reviews This camera is great. I got it for Christmas of 2008 (also at a Target Black Friday sale for .99) and I do not regret the purchase at all! I'm often amazed that my little camera can take such clear pictures and it's been very fun to have. The shooting modes are great and the video is very clear. However, I've noticed then when I'm taking a video the camera lags bit. It's hard to describe, but when I move the camera it takes maybe 1/6 of a second to show the move on the screen. It hasn't been a problem for me at all and I really don't mind it, but I thought I should mention it. Occasionally I end up with dark pictures, but most of the time that's due to the lighting conditions. No matter how expensive or amazing your camera is, you don't typically get good pictures in bad lighting. It's just a fact. The outdoor pictures are fantastic though. I've had no problems with the battery life, and I don't really have to charge it all that often. One thing that I don't like are the buttons on top of the camera. The flash button and power button are both small, and they both feel exactly the same so I often press the wrong button when trying to turn it on quickly. Again, not a huge problem, but worth mentioning I think. All in all, this is a GREAT camera. I absolutely love it, and I'm sorry that other reviewers haven't had as great of an experience. This camera is great. I got it for Christmas of 2008 (also at a Target Black Friday sale for .99) and I do not regret the purchase at all! I'm often amazed that my little camera can take such clear pictures and it's been very fun to have.

The shooting modes are great and the video is very clear. However, I've noticed then when I'm taking a video the camera lags bit. It's hard to describe, but when I move the camera it takes maybe 1/6 of a second to show the move on the screen. It hasn't been a problem for me at all and I really don't mind it, but I thought I should mention it.

Occasionally I end up with dark pictures, but most of the time that's due to the lighting conditions. No matter how expensive or amazing your camera is, you don't typically get good pictures in bad lighting. It's just a fact. The outdoor pictures are fantastic though.

I've had no problems with the battery life, and I don't really have to charge it all that often.

One thing that I don't like are the buttons on top of the camera. The flash button and power button are both small, and they both feel exactly the same so I often press the wrong button when trying to turn it on quickly. Again, not a huge problem, but worth mentioning I think.

All in all, this is a GREAT camera. I absolutely love it, and I'm sorry that other reviewers haven't had as great of an experience. I definitely recommend it and I would buy it again if given the chance. Check Price Now!

Stupid retracting lens! - Pookyluv - Grass Valley, California USA
I bought this camera a couple years ago... a friend of mine dropped it and the retracting lens slipped its gears and wouldnt work! I called the company and and after HOURS of irritation they said it was still under waranty and would send me a new one. They did so, but it seriously took alot of phone time and talking to customer service people who did not seem to understand english and wanted to call me at 4am to ask questions! I got my new camera 6 to 8 months ago and the lens is already acting stupid! (And it HASNT been dropped this time!) Its getting stuck open and wont close...or it closes and refuses to open again! I refuse to go through the hell I went through LAST time to replace it so I am in the market for a NEW digital camera...preferably one WITHOUT a retracting lens!

This is an easy to use basic snapshot camera. I wouldn't use it for anything that was really important. Unfortunately, the ultra compact cameras with tiny sensors and high megapixels do not do well. When I was in the Vatican, cameras with flashes were not allowed, and I found that once my camera adjusted to the light, I could take pictures that were just fine. This even in spite of the fact that many of the rooms there are barely lit in order to preserve the artwork. I recommend this camera to anyone who is just starting out in the realm of digital photography. This camera is perfect for anyone who is looking to take basic pictures and shines as a personal camera. The battery life itself is good, lasting about three hundred pictures before I had to change my batteries.

I have no real complaints about this camera. It is a good, basic camera with few options, and the fact that it doesn't have a flash really is not a problem once the camera adjusts to the light. When I was in the Vatican, cameras with flashes were not allowed, and I found that once my camera adjusted to the light, I could take pictures that were just fine. This even in spite of the fact that many of the rooms there are barely lit in order to preserve the artwork.

I recommend this camera to anyone who is just starting out in the realm of digital photography. This camera is perfect for anyone who is looking to take basic pictures and shines as a personal camera. The images I took when abroad are of good quality (though not the best), and the majority of the images turn out rather clear.
